Health & PE

  • Physical Education focuses on each child’s personal growth and well-being.  The UDSD curriculum promotes a healthy lifestyle and lifelong wellness through the development of each student’s physical health, talents, self-confidence and relationships with others.

Active kids do better!  When children are physically active, they perform better academically, have better attendance and improved behavior.  Physical education provides the activity and skill-based instruction that growing bodies need.  Fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamental playing skills through competitive sports are taught.  Fitness components are a part of every class. Running, jogging, walking, upper and lower body exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, and burpees are examples of these activities.

Some of the Physical Education units taught are:

    1) basic motor movements such as skipping, side slides, hopping, leaping, and jumping, etc.

     2) catching and throwing, using a variety of games and activities.

     3) kicking (soccer and kickball type activities).

    4) dribbling (basketball activities).

    5) bowling.

    6) hitting games (baseball and hockey type activities).

    7) relay race activities.
