Overview of Pandemic Reopening of Schools Plan

  • The District's goal is to continue to provide in-person instruction for all students while still providing the option of synchronous and asynchrous virtual learning for parents who do not feel comfortable transitioning their students back into buildings at this time.

As per our Board-approved Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan, we look forward to returning as many students as possible to full in-person instruction five (5) days a week for the Fall. The Administration will continue to review the plan, consider guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Education and adjust the plan as needed as we move forward. The District will also continue to communicate any updates to families via ParentLink emails and social media as quickly as possible. Please make make sure your e-mail address of record is up to date in the Home Access Center (HAC). Click HERE to access Home Access Center. See the Home Access Center Parent Handbook for directions on how to update your contact information. For assistance with HAC, please send an email to parentportal@upperdarbysd.org.

Please review our most recent ParentLink emails and School Board and Board Committee meetings for updates.

As always, our priority is to provide all of our students with the safest, most engaging educational experience possible. We are aware that the worldwide pandemic, along with racial and political tensions in our country, and the transition to virtual learning has been stressful for our students and families.  We recognize the social and emotional toll all of this has had on our students, staff, and community. We understand it is important to have students in front of teachers and that the social and supportive benefits that come with in-person instruction are priceless. These issues are complex and ever-changing.  We want to navigate this difficult time with care, and balance the safety and health of our students and our staff during this COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of these complexities, the District intends to respond to school reopening with continued flexibility.

Please remain vigilant in your safety efforts and encourage your child to maintain social distancing, to wash hands, and to wear his/her mask. We want again thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through our pandemic reopening of schools plan.
