  • A strong library program with a rich curriculum and collection fosters life-long learners and information-literate students.  Highland Park supports this philosophy by offering its students a dynamic media atmosphere.  The collection is built on curriculum needs as well as student interests.  Each library lesson is created to enrich the existing school curriculum and gain students’ excitement with diverse areas of interest.  The librarian holds a pivotal role in the learning community by working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and staff to ensure connections are made which reinforce student learning and engagement.

     

    Highland Park's library hosts several events to promote reading and learning each year.  Scholastic Book Fairs are held with proceeds from each benefiting the school library and students’ home libraries.  The Apple Tree Book Club is a school-wide reading incentive program that concludes with a celebration during Read Across America in March.  Throughout the year, the library collects used books through donations and yard sales that are distributed in the spring to encourage summer reading.  Wherever possible, new technologies are introduced and utilized to support achievement as well.  The overall goal of Highland Park’s library program is to assist students in becoming active and creative locators, evaluators, and users of information to solve problems and satisfy their own interests.
