Dr. Gregory Manfre has worked in the Upper Darby School District for the last 32 years. In 1992 Dr. Manfre was hired in the Pupil Services Department as an attendance officer, ensuring that students with significant absences were provided proper interventions to support their need to improve attendance. Quickly recognizing his passion to teach, Dr. Manfre accepted a position at Drexel Hill Middle School as a Social Studies teacher the following year, and over the next seven years taught in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
Dr. Manfre became the first Lead Teacher at Drexel Hill Middle School in 1999, and worked with troubled students and their parents. In 2000, Dr. Manfre accepted his first administrative position, becoming an assistant principal at Beverly Hills Middle School (BHMS). He served the families of BHMS for one year. In 2001, he accepted a position back “home” becoming an Assistant Principal at Drexel Hill Middle School, serving the students and families of the Drexel Hill and Clifton Heights Communities for the next three years.
In January 2003, Dr. Manfre was asked to move to Upper Darby High School and became the Assistant Principal for the 2004 graduating class and the first assistant principal of the 9th grade academy in 2005. In 2006 Dr. Manfre became Upper Darby School District’s Federal Programs Coordinator. While in this position, he worked with the most economically disadvantaged families and schools in Upper Darby School District, ensuring that these schools and families were not left behind.
In 2008, he was called upon to become the Principal of Primos Elementary School and spent the next two years being the leader of a terrific staff and wonderful students. In 2010, Dr. Manfre accepted the opportunity, to once again, “go home” to Drexel Hill Middle School, becoming the principal of that school until 2014. It was then that Dr. Manfre accepted a Central Administrative position in Upper Darby as the district’s first director of student affairs and ELL services.
It was at this point that the relationship between the Delco Literacy Council and Dr. Manfre began. In 2018 Dr. Manfre became the Director of Secondary Education, leading the two Middle Schools and the High School Administrative teams. In 2020 Dr. Manfre accepted his current role as Director of Elementary Education, leading the 10 elementary schools and their leadership teams.
