Joanne Devito

Mrs. Joanne DeVito is a proud 1st generation Italian American raised in Upper Darby. Her parents immigrated to the United States in 1957 and settled on Copley Road in Upper Darby Township.
Mrs. DeVito received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Joseph’s University in 1983. She enjoyed her time as an accountant but followed through on her dream to be a teacher and continued her education at Cabrini University. She completed the Secondary Mathematics Teacher Certification Program (1992) and her Masters of Education at Cabrini (1997) while teaching in the Malvern area. She was thrilled to join the Upper Darby High School Mathematics Department in August 1998. She taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry & Analytic Geometry, and Honors Pre-Calculus during her UDHS teaching years.
She later gained leadership experience as the UDHS Freshman Academy Coordinator for a couple of years and then as the interim UDHS Assistant Principal for the Class of 2009 for several months during the 2008-2009 school year.
In June 2009, Mrs. DeVito was officially appointed as an Assistant Principal at Upper Darby High School. During her time as an Assistant Principal, she proudly led the Upper Darby Classes of 2012, 2015, and 2018. In December 2018, Mrs. DeVito became the Principal of Highland Park Elementary School.
Mrs. DeVito loves her Highland Park family. She reminds her students every day of the importance of kindness so that everyone feels safe as they engage in their academic work and also to foster a positive school climate. Mrs. DeVito is grateful for her wonderful students, amazing teachers and staff, and supportive families! She also appreciates the love and support from her family!
